Authenticity in the Church

I am grateful to Victoria Penny for sharing this article with us:

The 'Perils of Wannabe Cool' Christianity

Also please consider the following:

A continual source of great spiritual encouragement to me is found in a book penned by Maurice Robert's, The Thought of God.   In the chapter, The Fellowship of the Saints, he gives us helpful reminders in seeking authenticity in the fellowship of Christ.

He states there are five hinderances to authentic christian fellowship:
1.  Fellowship is not improved by the presence of believers who never attempt to talk about the truths of religion.
2.  Fellowship is not enhanced by believers who have only one stringed fiddles and cannot talk about any subject except their own pet theme.
3.  Fellowship is not promoted when one person commandeers the group in the belief that he is the only one whose voice ought to be listened to.
4. Fellowship is poorer when we relax so much that our tongue runs away with us.
5. Fellowship must not be glum, sombre or depressing.

He states there are three ways in promoting authentic christian fellowship:
1.  It will help our fellowship when we come together with some well-prepared spiritual thoughts to share with one another.
2.  Fellowship is the place where the religion of the heart is much promoted.
3.  Fellowship above all, must let us seek to have the felt sense of Christ's presence with us as we gather together.
