LOVE•TRAIN•SERVE

Our Vision:

Christ Covenant seeks to worship God in Hernando as a missional community that is committed to LOVE, TRAIN, AND SERVE others in Jesus Christ!

Our Focus:

Christ Covenant will gather to worship the God of Scripture, intentionally nurture our fellowship in Christ, and thoughtfully serve the people of Hernando in DeSoto County.

Our Values:

We have three core values which give us hope and shape our vision at Christ Covenant:
  • We believe the Gospeof Christ is the power of God unto new life, which is able to transform any individual, community, and city.
  • We believe the Church is the body of Christ, which is the focused community of God for gathering and sanctifying His people in this world.
  • We believe the Kingdom of Christ is His rule and authority over all things, which promises to bring peace (shalom) in heaven and upon the earth.

How we got started...

Clint Wilcke accepted God’s call to be the church planter in Hernando as granted by the Elders of Christ Presbyterian Church in Olive Branch, MS.  This allowed us to establish only the second PCA (Presbyterian Church in America) church in DeSoto County.  Christ Covenant Church became the name of this new work!

We started weekly vision casting bible studies on September 14, 2008 to establish our focus and direction for this new church.  This in turn lead to a regular Friday men's prayer breakfast and bible study as well as a women's mid-bible study in Ephesians.  This was a very significant time in which God expanded our vision as men and women, who began to share a mutual concern for one another spiritually.

Our next major step in the life of this church plant was regular public worship which began on Sunday, January 4, 2009.  We then started our first community groups that fall with approximately 30-40 people in regular bi-monthly gatherings.  At the same time, we began a new members and inquirer's seminar in the home of the Wilckes. Over the next year, this allowed us as a church to gather forty-seven people to be trained and instructed in the biblical necessity and priority of the Church of Jesus Christ. These men, women, and children took formal vows to become members of the Christ Covenant family.  In the Winter and Spring of 2010 we nominated and trained six men to become officers who would lead this church into the future. Bob Barber and Shaun Sipe were elected as Elders, along with the pastor, to establish the first Session of this church.   We finally celebrated being recognized as a full-fledged church (particularized) in our denomination (PCA) on Sunday evening, September 12, 2010.   On October 31,  Dick Brankstone, Rab Edwards, and Scott Sartor were installed to serve as deacons for this congregation and community.

We believe this is the very beginning of our desire to know Christ and make him known in Hernando, DeSoto County, and the uttermost parts.  We have started a youth program and a children's program, which includes a choir.   There are weekly bible studies for men and women, a community bible study (see above calendar), and community groups currently being offered.

Our worship can best be described as "business casual" with a mix of traditional and contemporary music (please see blog). The preaching is considered expositional, meaning how we unfold the truth of Christ from the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments. We believe worship is about God and for God, and when God is the primary focus of worship, His people fall in love with Christ and with one another (true fellowship).

We welcome you to join us in worship and become a missional church with us for the glory of Jesus Christ in Hernando.
